Board Grades: From Single-Wall to Triple-Wall

Corrugated board is not a one-size-fits-all material. It comes in multiple structural grades to handle everything from lightweight inner cartons to heavy industrial crates.
Single-wall board (composed of one liner, one medium, and one backing) is lightweight and economical, making it the standard choice for retail and shipping boxes. Double-wall board adds an extra medium and liner, significantly boosting stacking strength and puncture resistance. It is widely used for heavy or valuable goods. For the most demanding applications, triple-wall board (seven layers total) offers extreme durability and can replace wooden crates for machinery, motors, and large industrial equipment.
When selecting a grade, consider product weight, shipping distance, and warehouse stacking height. Double-wall boards can even combine different flutes—such as C-flute and B-flute—to achieve both cushioning and rigidity. The right structural choice ensures product safety while avoiding unnecessary material waste and cost.
